چکیده

This paper demonstrates the capabilities of Adaptive Mesh Refinement Techniques (AMR) on 2D hybrid unstructured meshes, for high order finite volume WENO methods. The AMR technique developed is a conformal adapting unstructured hybrid quadrilaterals and triangles (quads & tris) technique for resolving sharp flow features in accurate manner for steady-state and time dependent flow problems. In this method, the mesh can be refined or coarsened which depends on an error estimator, making decision at the parent level whilst maintaining a conformal mesh, the unstructured hybrid mesh refinement is done hierarchically. When a numerical method can work on a fixed conformal mesh this can be applied to do dynamic mesh adaptation. Two Refinement strategies have been devised both following a H-P refinement technique, which can be applied for providing better resolution to strong gradient dominated problems. The AMR algorithm has been tested on cylindrical explosion test and forward facing step problems. Harshavardhana Srinivasan, Panagiotis Tsoutsanis

ADER-WENO Finite Volume Schemes with Space-Time Adaptive Mesh Refinement

We present the first high order one-step ADER-WENO finite volume scheme with Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) in multiple space dimensions. High order spatial accuracy is obtained through a WENO reconstruction, while a high order one-step time discretization is achieved using a local space-time discontinuous Galerkin predictor method. Due to the one-step nature of the underlying scheme, the resul...

Observations on the fifth-order WENO method with non-uniform meshes

The weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) methods are a popular high-order spatial discretization for hyperbolic partial differential equations. Typical treatments of WENO methods assume a uniform mesh. In this paper we give explicit formulas for the finite-volume, fifth-orderWENO (WENO5) method on non-uniform meshes in a way that is amenable to efficient implementation. We then compare t...

A Robust Reconstruction for Unstructured WENO Schemes

The weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) schemes are a popular class of high order numerical methods for hyperbolic partial differential equations (PDEs). While WENO schemes on structured meshes are quite mature, the development of finite volume WENO schemes on unstructured meshes is more difficult. A major difficulty is how to design a robust WENO reconstruction procedure to deal with d...

Parallel adaptive mesh refinement method based on WENO finite difference scheme for the simulation of multi-dimensional detonation

For numerical simulation of detonation, computational cost using uniform meshes is large due to the vast separation in both time and space scales. Adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) is advantageous for problems with vastly different scales. This paper aims to propose an AMR method with high order accuracy for numerical investigation of multi-dimensional detonation. A well-designed AMR method based ...
